01

Support without taking over

Families often carry enormous weight. The most durable support respects that recovery belongs to the person doing it.

Healthy boundaries are not a withdrawal of love. They make long-term support possible.

02

Communication that helps

Direct, calm and specific communication tends to work better than ultimatums or silence.

It is reasonable to say what you can do, what you cannot do and what you need — and to revisit that over time.

03

Care for yourself too

Family members benefit from their own support, education and community. Sustainable support requires it.

When appropriate, authorized by the resident and incorporated into treatment, family and natural-support involvement may be encouraged.
